Eppendorf MixMate®

Description

This compact and amazingly versatile mixer was especially designed for mixing small volumes in numerous plat and tube formats. MixMate's fast and precisely controlled mixing movements (2DMix-Control) enable efficient and homogenous mixing of samples in all vessel formats allowing MixMate to be used for virtually any application. It accommodates micro test tubes, PCR plates, deepwell plates and MTPs. The MixMate also features a touch vortex function that aligns with Eppendorf's physio-care concept. With a 2 second override before and after vortexing that minimizes causes hand-arm-vibration for ergonomic operation and allows vortexing of your next sample without restarting.

PhysioCare Concept for Ergonomic Vortexing
MixMate includes a patented vortex function that causes minimal hand-arm-vibration for ergonomic operation. Tests performed by an independent laboratory have shown that MixMate's vortex function transfers significantly less strain to the hand-arm region than a standard vortexer device. The vortex function also features a 2 second override for even more ergonomic operation you don't need to press down the tube the entire time to activate the vortex.

2D Mix-Control Technology:
MixMate's unique 2DMix-Control technology mixes liquid in a very controlled orbital flow. The lack of chaotic splashing enables mixing without wetting the lid.

The most powerful, efficient mixing performance
MixMate provides enough mixing power to handle the most challenging mixing tasks. Most samples are efficiently mixed within less than a minute independent of vessel geometry or sample properties. For more information see Eppendorf Application Notes 130, 131 and 159, found in the Support Materials tab.

Samples are effectively mixed within 1 minute of mixing
Samples are completely mixed after 1-5 minutes of mixing

Control Mixing and Anti-spill Technology:
Application Note 129 (view App Note)
PCR preparations were pipetted in the pattern of a chessboard with and without template DNA, which were mixed before amplification in a 96-well PCR plate without the wells being sealed. With the Eppendorf MixMate, plates were mixed for 10 min at 1,650 rpm without being sealed to demonstrate controlled mixing.

It can be clearly seen that there is no cross-contamination or false-positive PCR signal in the negative controls (preparations without template DNA) as a result of the plate being mixed without being sealed, despite the relatively large PCR volume of 50 μL. Experiments performed to determine the sensitivity of the PCR system used showed that cross-contamination with less than 0.5 μL is enough to lead to a clearly visible PCR band (data not shown).

Efficient Mixing of High Viscous Liquids:
Application Note 159 (view App Note)
The 2D Mix-Control on the Eppendorf MixMate can efficiently mix samples in seconds, independent of sample volume, sample viscosity, and vessel type. The picture here shows the before (left) and after (right) of how red colored water and glycerol were efficiently mixed after 60 seconds of mixing with the Eppendorf MixMate, as indicated by the homogeneously red staining without any cords.
